All the courses will be taught by an international faculty featuring recognized academic experts in the fields of intercultural communication, intercultural project management, multicultural teamwork, cultures and conflicts, multicultural society as well as on intercultural conflict management. Prof. Dr. Lutz Becker
Dr. Lutz Becker is Professor for Management and Leadership at Karlshochschule International University, Karlsruhe/Germany and Head of Karlshohschule’s Master Program Leadership.
He studied Media Sciences, Marketing and Business Administration and holds a doctorate in Economics. The subject of his dissertation was “Integral Information Management”.
Dr. Becker began his professional career in the marketing department of Wilkinson Sword GmbH. He then spent several years with the Philips Corporation, working in consulting, product management and key account management. Later he was Director of International Sales in the field of Apple Mac periphery and multimedia.
Since 1990, Dr. Becker has been focussing on management consulting for major companies and public institutions. His main areas of expertise are business development, strategic counselling, information and communication management, as well project management.
He was also co-founder and Board partner of TradeWheels International S.A., Brussels, a consulting network with companies in Belgium, France, Germany, Norway, and Switzerland.
From 1994 to 2000, Dr. Becker was co-founder and Managing Director of Norman Data Defense Systems GmbH, a subsidiary of Norman ASA, Oslo/Norway. 1995 also saw the founding of the Data and Network Security/eCommerce Panel of the Federal Association for Information and Communications Systems (BVB - Bundesverband Inforformations- und Kommunikationsysteme, today: BITKOM), of which he was Chairman until 2000. In addition, he was a member of the German Internet Media Council (“Internet Medienrat”) for several years.
From 1994 until 2005, Dr. Becker has been a lecturer for Marketing at Bergische Universität GH Wuppertal. He is well known as the author and editor of numerous books and magazine publications on technology and management issues. Amoung others he has been appointed member of the advisory boards of the Bergische Institut for Product Development and Innovation Management and Symposion Publishing GmbH, a leading publisher of books and digital media in the field of management and technology.

Dr. Andrea Cnyrim
Dr. Andrea Cnyrim has been teaching Intercultural Communication issues in various settings. Since 2000 she is a member of faculty at the Department for Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Communication at the University of Mainz. There, she trains translators and interpreters from about 90 countries in the specific intercultural knowledge and skills required for translation processes. Before, she served as head of international office at Heilbronn University and was member of intercultural faculty at the University of Applied Science Ludwigshafen (Human Resource Management) at Heilbronn University (Tourism Management) and Université de Savoie, Chambéry, France (Applied Linguistics). Throughout her career, Andrea Cnyrim has been leading trainings and workshops for professionals and volunteers in business and non-profit organisations and has contributed to international projects like the Winter Olympics in Albertville, France (1992), Deutsch-Französisches Jugendwerk / Office franco-allemand pour la Jeunesse or co-operations with the Goethe Institutes in Mumbai and Pune, India. Her special interests focus on intercultural conflict management, negotiation, and on communication and learning styles. Member of SIETAR Deutschland e.V. for many years, she is co-editing the SIETAR Deutschland book series on Intercultural Competence and Co-operation. Andrea Cnyrim will be teaching the Cultures and Conflicts & Intercultural Conflict Management topics of the Summer Academy.
Prof. Nikola Hale
Prof. Nikola Hale, U.S. American, is an intercultural trainer, coach and consultant in industry and government and is Dean of Studies in the multicultural English-language taught Bachelors, MBA and Executive MBA programs in International Business Management at the HFU Business School, Furtwangen University. She studied history, sociolinguistics, education and communication sciences at Tufts and Boston Universities in Boston and the University of Florence in Italy and continued her further education in intercultural training competencies at SAIL and SIETAR professional workshops. As a voluntary expatriate based in Europe since 1978, and in Germany since 1980, she has been working internationally to support business people and government officials in their intercultural interactions internationally. Prof. Nikola Hale offers seminars in general intercultural sensitivity and awareness and in culture-specific and function-specific areas, including:Managing Cultural Diversity, Multicultural Teamwork ,Intercultural Conflict Management”, “Intercultural Presentation Skills” and the complete Global Deployment cycle, from assessment, pre-departure training, couples coaching, on-site virtual coaching and face-to face supervisions, to re-entry debriefing. As a certified administrator of the IDI, Intercultural Development Inventory, a well-known assessment tool for intercultural sensitivity, Nikola Hale uses this tool for individuals or groups of trainees within a Global Deployment Cycle she has developed for pre-departure orientation, on-site supervisions and face-to-face and virtual coaching and re-entry debriefing seminars. As a member of the scientific advisory board of SIETAR, she invests into the further education of interculturalists, and as a speaker, moderator and panel discussion speaker at international professional associations and conferences for SIETAR, DAZ, EnCoDe ,ifa, AIS, EnCoDe, BESIG, among others, she has also published articles on the field of intercultural training, including chapters in FAZ and Gabler publications, and spoken as an invited expert on panel and podium discussions,e.g. 2008 Hannover Fair for the WoMenPower Conference on Diversity Management and the Sibiu/ Hermannstadt Conference on Cultural Diversity in Regional Development in Romania, September 2007. With project experience in Germany, USA, France, Mexico, Togo, China and Italy, she speaks English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. As full professor since 1995 at the HFU, Nikola Hale has taught students from the entire world in the areas of diversity and intercultural management. She is a regularly invited guest professor at partner universities of Furtwangen in Shanghai, Suzhou and Xiamen in China for MBA and Executive MBA groups.
Prof. Dr. Francisco Javier Montiel
Francisco Javier Montiel Alafont, born in Madrid (Spain), studied Hispanic Philology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Marketing at the Instituto Europeo de Estudios Superiores (IEES Madrid) and Intercultural Business Communication at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena. He holds a Doctorate (Ph. D.) in Intercultural Business Communication (also at the FSU Jena). His dissertation deals with the History of advertisement as cultural history.
His work in Spain focussed on two different areas: Prof. Dr. Montiel initially worked in the area of advertisement, marketing and sales (ML Asociados Publicidad, Madrid; Libérica Editores Barcelona/Madrid). Later on, he became a lecturer for Spanish at High School level as well as for Spanish for specific purposes in collaboration with specialised language academies.
Living in Germany for the past 12 years, he holds a position as research associated at the Department for Intercultural Business Communication of FSU Jena. From 2009 till 2011, he also held a position as Substitute Professor for Intercultural Business Communication at the Department of Economics of the HAW Hamburg (University of Applied Sciences). In March 2012 he will join the Karlshochschule International University as a Professor for Intercultural Business Communication.
Prof. Dr. Montiel’s research activities cover a wide spectrum of topics like intercultural training, consulting and coaching; German-Spanish and Spanish-Latin American relationships; Spanish culture and economy; history of advertising, communication, media and culture; Place-Branding communication and collective identity construction.
His comprehensive experience as the head of the Spanish Cultural Area division at the intercultural training and consulting organization interculture.de can be highlighted. In association with interculture.de he developed and carried out numerous training sessions for large corporations as well as SMEs and public institutions.
