The Summer Academy on Intercultural Experience cooperatively organized by the Karlshochschule International University and AFS – Interkulturelle Begegnungen e.V. approaches relevant topics in the field of intercultural management, communication and training and is intended to foster the intercultural perspective within the field of management studies as well as to develop applied solutions for the problems in business and society.
The Summer Academy will last two weeks from July 30 through August 10, 2012 and students can enrol for either one or two weeks.

Subjects of the Summer Academy

The Summer Academy will bring together scientists, practitioners, and students to work together on the following questions.

What are the major themes in intercultural communication, what has been done regarding the globalisation process, how has communication changed? How are cultures constructed, what are their origins and how do people perceive the world, how can we solve the problems that arise when different cultural values meet?
How do management and the world of business react to the intercultural challenges in a world of growing complexity?
What are important learning and teaching styles in different cultures? What is important in intercultural groups when it comes to teaching on intercultural competence and to curriculum design?

The Summer Academy will comprise lectures on intercultural communication, intercultural conflict management, multicultural teamwork, intercultural project management, acquisition of intercultural competence as well as on intercultural trainings. All courses will have complementary workshop sessions with theoretical and practical content offered by lecturers and trainers which are experts with large experience in international environments.

Target group

The Summer Academy on Intercultural Experience is open to anyone aged 18-35 with a demonstrable interest in the field of intercultural communications and management. Primary target groups are undergraduate students with at least one year of academic record (by start of the academy) and young professionals with a background or interest in intercultural experiences. Participants also need communicative English skills as all courses are taught in English.

Certificate and ECTS

Students in the Summer Academy have the option to choose between three tracks (consisting of two courses each) focusing on intercultural aspects of the respective topic.
Participants who successfully complete two courses within two weeks will not only be awarded a certificate but also earn six ECTS. Participants can also enroll for the first week only and will receive a certificate for their attendance.

Fees

1 week: 490 €
2 weeks: 780 €
The fees cover all courses, the course material and the public events. Not included are: travel, accommodation, and subsistence expenses.
